Guides / Deposits and paperwork
Set up and stop utilities without paying twice
Time the switch and ask about deposits and fees.
Utilities are easy to forget until moving day. A few calls two weeks ahead avoid gaps, double billing and late fees.
At the old place
- Schedule shutoff for the day after you move out
- Return internet equipment to avoid charges, and get a receipt
- Give a forwarding address for final bills
At the new place
- Ask the landlord or seller which utilities you need to set up
- Ask about deposits; some utilities waive them with a good payment history letter from your old provider
- Compare internet options at the new address instead of moving your plan automatically
- Schedule service for move-in day, not later
